DAVAO CITY – Vice President Sara Duterte on Thursday, Aug. 7, urged respect and adherence to the Senate’s decision to archive the impeachment complaint filed against her and emphasized the importance of recognizing the constitutional role of the legislative body.
“We must respect the role of the Senate of the Philippines. Suppose that’s the decision of the majority of the Senate members, in that case, everyone must follow and respect that decision,” Duterte said.
The Vice President attended the Misa Pasasalamat for this year’s Kadayawan Festival on Thursday afternoon.
Despite challenges, she said that people must not forget to thank God for all their blessings.
Duterte said that her camp did not expect anything and just prepared for all possible scenarios on the outcome of the Senate plenary on Wednesday.
“To be honest, we didn’t have one particular expectation. Our legal team prepared for all possible outcomes, and what happened now in the Senate — that they archived the impeachment complaint — is one of those potential scenarios,” the Vice President said.
Duterte had met her legal team and petitioners who advocated dismissing the impeachment complaint during a Thanksgiving gathering after the Senate archived the Articles of Impeachment.
The Vice President’s defense team welcomed the Senate’s decision and said that their attention will now turn to addressing the matter before the Supreme Court.
