Tight security for Kadayawan Festival

DAVAO CITY – Security will be tight as authorities have mobilized 19,085 security personnel to ensure the safety and orderliness of the 40th Kadayawan Festival in Davao City this month.
In his first Kadayawan as acting Davao City Police Office director, Police Col. Mannan Muarip reaffirmed their full commitment to safeguarding the month-long cultural celebration.
“This festival is more than just a celebration—it reflects our identity and unity. We are duty-bound to protect that,” Muarip said during a send-off ceremony on Wednesday at the DCPO parade grounds on San Pedro St.
Muarip said the security deployment includes personnel from public safety and security, military, coast guard, traffic group, and disaster risk reduction team.
He assured the public that all police personnel have been thoroughly briefed on their responsibilities. Muarip called on residents and visitors to strictly observe safety protocols throughout the festivities.
“As we celebrate the vibrant spirit of Kadayawan, let us also uphold the values of safety, unity, and shared responsibility. Together, we can make this festival joyful and secure for all,” he added.
The send-off ceremony was also attended by retired Police Lt. Col. Angel Sumagaysay, head of the Public Safety and Security Office, and Col. Rodrigo Mariñas Jr., commander of the Task Force Davao.
Muarip said they underscored the unified approach of Davao City’s security forces in maintaining peace during one of Mindanao’s biggest festivals.
Acting Davao City Mayor Sebastian Duterte, in a message delivered by Sumagaysay, emphasized that their shared goal is to ensure a peaceful, safe, and incident-free celebration.
“Let us stand united, work hand-in-hand, and uphold the spirit of Kadayawan by protecting our people, culture, and the entire city,” Duterte said.
Troops were blessed by Rev. Fr. Police Lt. Col. Rendell Cinches, who prayed for their safety and guidance.
With the combined efforts of national and local agencies, authorities expressed confidence in achieving a zero-incident festival and ensuring a safe environment for Davaoeños and tourists.
