The Manila North Cemetery (MNC) has intensified its security to curb activities deemed disrespectful to the deceased and disruptive to visitors.
MNC Director Daniel Dandan Tan, in coordination with Manila Police District Station 3 (MPD PS3) led by Capt. Ferdie Cayabyab, conducted regular inspections to prevent the entry of liquor, illegal drugs, gambling paraphernalia, bladed weapons, and videoke machines.
The initiative aims to instill discipline and reinforce public respect for the cemetery as a sacred and solemn space.
During a recent operation, several bottles of alcohol were confiscated and destroyed.
A stern warning was also issued to those who are found to be violating cemetery rules.
Cemetery personnel said they have repeatedly reminded both visitors and vendors about prohibited items and behaviors, including drinking, selling liquor, causing noise disturbances, and gambling, all of which have been reported in previous years, particularly during peak visitation periods.
Tan stressed that these efforts are not merely regulatory but are part of promoting a culture of respect, especially for families who come to mourn or honor their loved ones in peace.
Authorities said inspections will continue regularly and called on the public to help maintain order and reverence within the cemetery grounds.
