You’re deep in a movie. It’s revealed that the hero’s unassuming grandma next door is actually the villain, and she’s about to reveal another twist that’s been foreshadowed since the start – and then buffering–bufferring–and… yeah, WiFi’s down.
Could be worse, right? Like getting ghosted by your WiFi when you’re uploading this one big file that your professor or boss needs to see ASAP? I know I can’t be the only one.
These are the moments PLDT Home Always On modem promises to save us from. Now, I know people rarely high-fives each other over modems, but this one may deserve some applause. Because this modem uses both fiber and LTE.
Basically, if the fiber connection is lost, the modem will automatically switch to LTE to keep you connected.
If you’re wondering, the main difference between fiber and LTE is the former provides internet access with physical cables. The latter uses wireless cellular networks. It’s like turning your smartphone into a hotspot when there isn’t any WiFi around your home.
Always On has another feature that sounds cool, on paper. When the fiber connection is cut, PLDT is automatically notified of the incident, and will begin resolution process even before you notice and rage-tweet (rage-X?) about the issue. And once the fiber gets back online, the modem switches back from LTE to fiber. You wouldn’t have had to do a thing.
“Always On was built around the realities of how Filipinos live and work today—complex, multitasking, and digitally-driven,” said John Y. Palanca, senior vice president and head of home consumer business, sales and development, PLDT. “At PLDT Home, we are committed to creating innovative solutions that meet the real needs of our customers. Even a moment of disconnection can mean missed opportunities or lost time with loved ones. That’s why Always On is more than just a device. It’s our promise to keep families connected when it matters most.”
