DAVAO CITY – Vice President Sara Duterte revealed on Thursday, Aug. 7, that former President Rodrigo Duterte was overjoyed after the Supreme Court declared the Articles of Impeachment unconstitutional.

Speaking to reporters after the Misa Pasasalamat before the opening of the Kadayawan Festival on Friday, Aug. 8, Vice President Duterte said her father was pleased upon learning that he won a case before the SC.

Vice President Duterte said that former President Duterte, who was part of her legal team before authorities arrested and brought him to The Hague, was informed of the court ruling by one of his legal counsels.

“The former President was truly very happy when his legal counsel contacted him and informed him that he won the Supreme Court case, since he was one of my lawyers,” Vice President Duterte said.

Upon hearing the good news, the Vice President said that her father told his legal counsel that he wanted to relax for a day, with no meetings and physical therapy, as he wants to enjoy the moment he won an SC case.

She did not disclose further details, but emphasized the emotional impact of the court’s decision on her father, who has remained largely out of the public spotlight since stepping down from office in 2022.

The former President has faced multiple legal challenges since leaving office, including cases filed before domestic and international bodies. Allies see the SC’s ruling as a significant legal and personal victory.

Vice President Duterte assured the public that her father is in good health and spirits. “He is okay. Most of the time when I visit, he is always in a good mood.”
