More Filipinos are securing regular employment as the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) ramps up programs aimed at expanding access to quality jobs and enhancing workforce readiness.
DOLE said its sustained efforts to expand employment opportunities contributed to the country’s improved employment rate of 96.3 percent in June 2025, based on the latest Labor Force Survey released by the Philippine Statistics Authority.
An estimated 185,000 individuals were added to the employed population, while the labor force grew by more than half a million compared to the same period last year—signaling increased confidence in the labor market.
The unemployment rate declined to 3.7 percent, equivalent to 1.95 million jobless Filipinos, from 4.1 percent, or 2.1 million, in May.
Underemployment also dropped, indicating a shift toward more stable, full-time work.
Employment gains were most notable in the construction, retail, fishing, and aquaculture sectors, reflecting continued recovery in industries reliant on steady labor.
In his recent State of the Nation Address, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. underscored the importance of decent employment in addressing poverty and directed government agencies to accelerate efforts that improve job access.
At the forefront of these efforts is DOLE’s flagship employment program, Trabaho sa Bagong Pilipinas, which works closely with employers, local government units, and Public Employment Service Offices (PESOs) to link jobseekers with verified openings and provide employment support.
DOLE also scaled up its youth-targeted programs, including the Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES), Government Internship Program (GIP), and JobStart Philippines, to offer skills training and hands-on work experience.
The upgraded PhilJobNet platform now features real-time job listings matched to users’ skills and locations, expanding employment access across regions.
The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), an attached agency of DOLE, continues to offer free skills training and scholarships aligned with priority industries in support of the government’s goal to produce job-ready graduates in every household.
DOLE reaffirmed its commitment to building a more inclusive and resilient labor market under the Bagong Pilipinas governance framework.
