DPWH to construct two water impounding facilities in Bulacan
To help address severe flooding in Malolos City during the rainy season, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has begun constructing two water impounding facilities in Bulacan.

Excavation works have started along MacArthur Highway where the facilities will be built.
The two sites are located in Barangays Bulihan and Sumapang Matanda and will be connected to nearby rivers to help collect and manage excess rainwater.
According to the DPWH, the facilities will be capable of storing up to 1.9 million liters of rainwater.
This is seen as a long-term solution to the city’s persistent flooding problem.
Instead of letting floodwaters flow directly into Manila Bay, the collected water will be treated through a water treatment facility.
Once treated, it can be reused for firefighting, irrigation, maintenance of government facilities, and even as an emergency water source for drinking.
The initiative forms part of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s priority flood control program which seeks to address flooding in disaster-prone areas in the country.
