After posting record-breaking profits every year since 2021, China Bank Savings (CBS) is on track for another banner year as its profit grew 19 percent to ₱1.2 billion in the first half of 2025.
“We continue to perform well despite economic headwinds such as geopolitical uncertainties and shifting monetary environments,” said CBS President James Christian T. Dee.
He added that, “We will follow our game plan of expansion both physically and digitally to ensure we reach as many Filipinos as possible.”
Total loans expanded by 8.6 percent to ₱147.1 billion, supported by continued growth in automatic payroll deduction (APD), auto, housing, and small and medium enterprise (SME) lending. Deposits grew by 8.8 percent to ₱181.4 billion from December 2024.
Asset quality improved as the non-performing loans (NPL) ratio decreased to 2.8 percent from the previous year’s 2.9 percent, less than half the thrift banking industry’s average of 6.6 percent in the first quarter.
Total assets came in at ₱205.5 billion, higher by 8.7 percent from December 2024 levels, mainly driven by continued loan expansion.
In July 2025, parent bank China Banking Corp. (Chinabank) infused an additional ₱1 billion in capital into CBS, part of the ₱2-billion capital infusion approved in 2023, to further bolster the savings bank’s performance and ability to cater to the financing needs of the markets it serves. This is a testament to Chinabank’s strong and unwavering confidence in CBS.
“We are grateful for the support of Chinabank, and we are committed to further growing CBS into the leading savings bank preferred by all markets we serve,” said Dee.
CBS is the second-largest thrift bank in the Philippines in terms of assets, based on Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) data. It will be expanding its physical branch network following the approval by the BSP of licenses for additional CBS branches in Cagayan de Oro City and Ormoc City.
Currently, CBS has 170 branches and 107 branch-lites and lending offices, for a total of 277 locations nationwide. CBS also has a total of 259 automated teller machines (ATMs) deployed nationwide as of July.
