Mamamayang Liberal (ML) Party-list Rep. Leila de Lima didn't take Senator Rodante Marcoleta's criticisms on the impeachment complaint sitting down.
De Lima took to Facebook on Wednesday night, Aug. 6 to counter Marcoleta's argument that the House-prepared impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte was akin to "undercooked rice".
"Hindi hilaw ang impeachment case. At lalong hindi hilaw ang paninindigan natin na ituloy ang paglilitis sa ngalan ng katotohanan at pananagutan (The impeachment case isn't raw. Just as our affirmation to push for the trial in the name of truth and accountability isn't raw)," she wrote.
During the Senate's marathon plenary session, Marcoleta--a backer of the Duterte family--sought to dismiss the impeachment complaint outright.
He said that although the House of Representatives transmitted the impeachment complaint signed by 215 congressmen last Feb. 5, it didn't follow the required procedure.
As such, Marcoleta said that what Senate the received from the House was "undercooked rice". He reckoned that the Senate shouldn't be forced to "eat" something that wasn't cooked properly.
Marcoleta had the last laugh, after his senator-colleagues voted 19-4-1 (yes-no-abstain) to "archive" the impeachment complaint.
It was supposedly the Senate's constitutional duty to hold a trial on Vice President Duterte and determine her guilt or innocence based on the articles of impeachment submitted by the House.
