2 killed in Zamboanga City bypass road collision

ZAMBOANGA CITY – Two persons were killed and two others were injured when a truck rammed a motorcycle along the Malagutay portion of the bypass road here on Tuesday, Aug. 5.
Police identified the fatalities as Rowel Lopez dela Peña, the motorcycle driver, and Dennis Gaco Absin, a native of Liloy, Zamboanga del Norte and residing in Barangay Pamingkitan, Sangali, Zamboanga City.
The truck driver and helper, identified as Al-Nasil Radjuli Mundok, 42, and Benhar Abdul Karim, 32, both residents of Pitogo, Barangay Sinunuc, Zamboanga City, were injured in the collision.
They were transported to the Zamboanga City Medical Center.
According to initial investigation by personnel of the Zamboanga City Police Station 8, both vehicles were traveling in opposite directions on the bypass road when the truck encroached into the lane occupied by the motorcycle, causing the two vehicles to collide.
Both vehicles sustained significant damage and were taken to the police station for further investigation and proper disposition.
Follow-up investigation is ongoing.
