PNP-HPG identifies suspects in police officer's shooting in Makati
CCTV footage near the incident area shows the victim collapsing on the ground after being shot multiple times by the assailants.
The Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) announced that they have already identified the two suspects wanted for the shooting of an HPG officer at a car wash in Barangay San Isidro, Makati City on Aug. 1.
HPG spokesperson Lt. Nadame Malang said the victim was a known intelligence officer of the team and was on an official mission when the shooting occurred.
“Ito pong scenario po na ito ay preparation po niya para kitain sana ‘yong atin pong isang confidential agent para po sa kanyang hinawakan po na case operational plan. Kaso nga lang po hindi nangyari na ito'y mapuntahan gayong ito po ang sinapit po ng ating kasamahan (This scenario was his preparation to meet our confidential agent for the case operational plan he was handling. Unfortunately, he was not able to go there because of what happened to our colleague)," Malang said.
“He is a former Limbas officer. May case operational plan po siya na hawak na nag-cite din ng mga criminal groups or even ito nga sa mga suspects po natin or mga kilala na mga most wanted persons na target din po ng kanyang case operational plan (He is a former Limbas officer. He has a case operational plan in hand that also cites criminal groups or even our suspects or known most wanted persons who are also targets of his case operational plan)," the official added.
Based on the police investigation, the victim—who was with his child and a friend—was waiting for his vehicle to be washed when a man suddenly arrived and fired multiple shots at him using a .9mm pistol, hitting him eight times in the stomach and one in the shoulder.
An elderly man was also hit by a stray bullet in the waist during the assault.
As the victim collapsed due to his injuries, the gunmen proceeded to take his jewelry, cellphone, wallet, and service firearm.
The victim's friend returned fire at the suspects, but they were able to escape onboard their motorcycle.
Both victims were quickly rushed to the hospital and are now in stable condition.
