Alabang Country Club has announced on Tuesday, Aug. 5, the temporary closure of its Petron station, located inside the posh Ayala Alabang Village in Muntinlupa, following a reported gas leak incident.
In a statement, the upscale, members-only club said that the incident was first reported on Monday, Aug. 4, when a security guard at Gate 2 of the club noticed a strong smell of fuel fumes near the Acacia Avenue concourse.
In response to the alert, the club's engineering team was dispatched to investigate and coordinated with all concessionaires to check for potential gas leaks.
According to the Ayala Alabang Country Club, the investigation pointed to a potential leak from one of the fuel tanks at the Petron.
“Petron Management was promptly notified, and they immediately deployed their technical team to conduct an on-site inspection,” the club stated. “It was confirmed that one of their five tanks may have been the source of the leak.”
The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) arrived at the site at approximately 9:00 PM to assess and monitor the situation. As a precautionary measure, the club undertook flushing of the drainage system to mitigate further risk. The Petron team remained on-site throughout the night and continued flushing operations to ensure safety in the surrounding area.
Additional personnel from Petron were expected to arrive on Tuesday to conduct further assessment and safety checks.
The club advised members and guests to wear face masks while outdoors, especially near the affected area, limit outdoor exposure in affected areas until further notice, and report any strong fuel smells or dizziness to the Club Management Office or Security personnel.
They also advised against opening flames or smoking in and around the club premises until clearance is confirmed. The club is coordinating closely with Petron’s technical team and relevant authorities to ensure that all necessary safety protocols are completed before resuming operations at the concessionaire.
Meanwhile, the golf course, sports facilities, and all restaurants are open and operating as usual
