Resident Edison Aguete spotted the bird, approximately weighing half a kilo, in his property and surrendered it to the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO).
“The Brahminy Kite appears to be weak so we are feeding it with chicken liver and we plan to release it after three days or upon recovery,” MENRO officer Jose Morata said.
Upon recommendation of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Morata said he advised the caretaker to cover the bird’s cage with cloth and refrain from touching it.
Brahminy Kite is of the raptors (predatory birds) species common in the Philippines. The DENR said it is considered endangered and protected.
Known as scavengers, the birds are carnivores that prey on chickens, rats, and snakes, among others. (PNA)
