Cousins drown in Rizal lake

Two children, a four-year-old kindergarten student and a three-year-old daycare student, drowned after falling into a lake near Pritil Wharf in Barangay Bombong, Binangonan, Rizal on Monday, Aug. 4.
Based on the police investigation, the victims, identified as Matthew Villariña and Joseph Julian Antinero, were walking beside the waiting shed of the wharf when they accidentally fell into the lake and drowned.
Matthew's mother saw her son's slipper floating in the water, prompting her to immediately ask for help from their neighbors.
The rescuers eventually recovered the bodies of the two boys, who were cousins, and were brought to Margarito Duavit Memorial Hospital for treatment. However, the attending physician declared them dead upon arrival.
