BMW Philippines has officially launched the all-new BMW M5 and M5 Touring, both sporting an electrified drivetrain, making this the first time an M5 model is offered locally with a hybrid powertrain. These two models are the seventh-generation M5 sedan and the third-generation M5 Touring, respectively. 

The new M5 and M5 Touring distinguish themselves from the regular 5 Series through aggressive styling and performance-oriented upgrades. These include widened wheel arches, muscular side skirts, a sculpted front apron, and M-specific details such as an embossed "M5" logo on the C-pillar. The sedan variant features the M Carbon exterior package, adding carbon-fiber elements like the roof, mirrors, and rear spoiler.

At the rear, both models are equipped with a dual-pair exhaust integrated into a split diffuser and slim LED taillights that extend into the flanks. A selection of six standard colors is available, including Marina Bay Blue Metallic and Isle of Man Green Metallic. Two BMW Individual finishes, Frozen Deep Grey and Storm Bay Metallic, are also offered for enhanced customization.

Power comes from the M HYBRID system, which combines a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine with an integrated electric motor. Total system output is rated at 727 PS and 1000 Nm of torque, managed through an eight-speed M Steptronic automatic transmission. Power is distributed to all four wheels via the M xDrive system, which can be set to rear-wheel drive only for more spirited driving. A top speed of 305 km/h is attainable with the optional M Driver’s Package.

The hybrid system utilizes the same layout as BMW’s M Hybrid V8 endurance race car. A high-voltage 18.6 kWh battery is mounted low in the chassis, enabling the M5 Sedan to travel up to 69 kilometers on electric power alone, and the Touring up to 67 kilometers, based on WLTP testing. The all-electric top speed is rated at 140 km/h. Charging can be done via AC at up to 7.4 kW, and regenerative braking helps replenish the battery during deceleration.

Performance is further enhanced by an adaptive M suspension system, M Servotronic steering with variable ratio, and rear-wheel steering. Standard wheels measure 20 inches in front and 21 inches in the rear. Braking is handled by M Carbon ceramic brakes, while an integrated braking system offers two levels of pedal feedback. Near-actuator wheel slip limitation and dynamic stability control integration improve traction and high-speed stability.

Inside, the M5 and M5 Touring provide a high-tech and premium environment. M multifunction seats, Merino leather trim, four-zone climate control, and ambient lighting are standard. The cockpit features a redesigned flat-bottom M steering wheel, the BMW Widescreen Display, and BMW Live Cockpit Professional with M-specific graphics. BMW’s Operating System 8.5 powers the infotainment, accessible via the central touchscreen or voice control. Climate functions, navigation, and seat settings can also be configured via natural voice interaction.

Driver assistance features include Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Lane Departure Warning, and Traffic Light Recognition, among others. Parking Assistant Professional allows for automated parking up to 200 meters, with the ability to control the process from a smartphone. The standard Head-Up Display also provides M-specific content like shift lights and drive mode indicators.

Customization options include M Drive Professional with TRACK mode and Boost Control, which primes the powertrain for peak output during overtaking or sprinting. Setup configurations can be adjusted through dedicated buttons, allowing changes to suspension, steering, drivetrain, and regenerative braking. Two preset M driving profiles can be stored and accessed via the steering wheel.

The all-new BMW M5 and M5 Touring are priced at ₱12,790,000. Both models come with a portable Flexi charger, a five-year warranty (or 200,000 km, whichever comes first), and an eight-year warranty (or 120,000 km) for the battery.
