A 27-year-old man was killed, while his 19-year-old brother and another companion were critically injured after their motorcycle crashed into a traffic sign post on Camarin Road in Barangay 178, Camarin, Caloocan City, on Tuesday, August 5.
According to barangay personnel, the incident occurred around 1 a.m. while the two brothers were reportedly rushing their friend to the hospital.
The driver was declared dead on arrival at the hospital. His younger brother and their friend were admitted for treatment.
Initial reports indicated that the motorcycle was traveling at high speed and may have swerved to avoid an obstacle before slamming into the sign post. The impact threw all three riders off the vehicle. They were not wearing helmets at the time of the crash.
Barangay responders found the victims lying unresponsive on the road.
Authorities said the area is accident-prone, particularly at night, due to poor visibility and frequent cases of speeding.
The father of the two siblings, a barangay tanod, appealed for financial assistance to help cover medical and burial expenses.
Barangay authorities reminded motorists to always observe speed limits, wear protective gear such as helmets, and avoid driving under the influence of liquor to prevent similar tragedies.
As of this writing, the Caloocan City police are conducting investigation to determine the cause of the crash.
