Rep. Paolo Duterte to host Pinoy Games on Int'l Youth Day

DAVAO CITY – To revive cherished childhood traditions and foster cultural pride among today’s youth, Davao City first district Rep. Paolo Duterte will spearhead “Dula Kaniadto Pinoy Games” at People’s Park here on Tuesday, Aug. 12.
With the theme “Reviving Filipino Culture Through Authentic Traditional Games,” Duterte said the initiative aims to reconnect the younger generation with time-honored pastimes that once brought communities together in every barangay.
“This is more than just a day of games. It’s about honoring our roots and passing down our childhood’s simple joys and lessons to the next generation. These games tell the story of who we are as Filipinos,” Duterte said.
Duterte said the event also seeks to reintroduce the joy of playing outdoors, when dusty streets turned into playgrounds and friendships were forged through laughter and lighthearted competition.
The Dula Kaniadto Pinoy Games will be held from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., with registration starting at 7 a.m. and the program officially starting at 8 a.m.
Youths aged 12 and above from all 54 barangays in the first district are expected to join, with each barangay sending 20 representatives.
An additional 10 slots will be open for walk-in participants, reinforcing the inclusive and community-driven spirit of the celebration. Participants aged 12 to 17 are required to submit a signed waiver upon registration.
Participants will receive a free event shirt, a loot bag, and complimentary porridge and bottled water. Attendees are also encouraged to bring packed meals for the day.
The game roster features 12 classic Filipino favorites, each designed to evoke childhood memories while promoting physical activity, teamwork, and cultural appreciation.
These are Palo Sebo, Takyan, Kadang Bagol, Patintero, Pukpok Palayok, Sack Race, Dakpanay Baktin, Basketball Shooting, Luksong Tinik, Tug of War, Lumba Ligid, and Shatong.
The one-day celebration coincides with International Youth Day and the vibrant Kadayawan Festival 2025, promising a nostalgic return to Filipino backyard and street games. It celebrates the synergy between cultural heritage and youthful enthusiasm.
Duterte’s office said that coordination may be made for those interested in joining the activity through their respective barangay offices, or participants may proceed directly to the event venue on Aug. 12.
