Jeepney driver arrested for raping girl, 16, in Marikina
A 45-year-old jeepney driver was arrested by the Marikina City Police for raping and impregnating a 16-year-old girl, the Eastern Police District (EPD) said on Sunday, Aug. 3.
Police identified the suspect as alias Ian, a resident of Barangay Fortune, Marikina City.
Based on the police report, Ian was arrested by the Marikina City Police Station's Intelligence Section together with the Naval Intelligence Security Group NCR by virtue of a warrant of arrest issued by the Family Court Branch 7 of Marikina City RTC.
EPD director Brig. Gen. Aden Lagradante said the crime occurred on Jan. 3, 2023 at a vacant lot in Concepcion Uno, Marikina City.
According to the victim who was 16 years old then, she went to meet with the suspect after agreeing to work as a conductor in his jeepney. Upon arriving at their meeting place, the suspect suddenly pulled out a knife and proceeded to rape her.
The victim initially did not reveal the abuse to her parents. However, upon learning that she became pregnant with Ian's child a month later, she told her mother the truth and reported the crime to the police.
After his arrest, the suspect was brought to the Marikina City Police Custodial Facility while waiting for the commitment order from the issuing court.

Lagi nating ipamalas ang pagiging masigasig at husay sa pag aksiyon upang labanan ang karahasan at pang-aabuso sa lipunan (These heinous acts have no place in our society, which is why I extend a big salute to the Marikina police officers. Let us always demonstrate diligence and efficiency in action to combat violence and abuse in society)," Lagradante said.
“Ipinapangako ng aming hanay na patuloy ang pagbibigay namin ng proteksiyon sa lahat ng mamamayan para sa mga ganitong uri ng krimen. Hindi kami titigil sa pagsasagawa ng mga hakbang upang matiyak ang kaligtasan ng bawat isa sa ating komunidad (Our ranks promise to continue to provide protection to all citizens from these types of crimes. We will not stop taking steps to ensure the safety of everyone in our community)," he added.
