“The Department of Foreign Affairs is aware of reports concerning a Filipina who was earlier reported missing in Las Vegas, Nevada, and has since been found deceased,” the agency said in a statement on Monday, Aug. 4.
However, the DFA said that they are still awaiting information from its Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles before they can provide more information about the case.
The department also appealed to the public and the media to refrain from speculation while the circumstances surrounding the Filipina’s death are still being clarified.
“In the meantime, we ask the public and media to avoid speculation and to respect the family’s privacy,” it added.
According to reports, 75-year-old Lourdes Morin was reported missing by her family on July 27.
She never returned home after she was last seen heading to attend Mass at St. Viator Church near Flamingo.
But three days later, hikers discovered her decomposing body in a ravine, approximately 10 kilometers from where she was last seen. Authorities are currently investigating if there was foul play involved.
A native of Victorias City, Negros Occidental, Morin was a green card holder and arrived in Las Vegas in May to visit her daughter and grandchildren. She was reportedly scheduled to return to the Philippines in January.
