Alan Cayetano is new Senate banks panel chief; Bam Aquino gets science & tech committee

The Senate on Monday, August 4, named Senator Paolo “Bam” Aquino IV as the chairperson of the Senate Committee on Science and Technology.
Meanwhile, Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano will now head the Senate Committee on Banks and Financial Institution.
This marks Aquino’s second time leading the science committee, having previously served as chairperson from 2016 to 2019 during his first term in the Senate.
The Senate has also named Sen. Manuel “Lito” Lapid as the head of the Senate committee on Housing, Urban Planning and Resettlement.
The latest committee assignments is part of the change of committee chairmanships which started since the entry of the new senators in the 20th Congress.
Cayetano, who previously headed the science and technology panel, however, requested Aquino to allow him at least a year to complete the pending bills and initiatives he started during his tenure in the committee.
As this developed, Senate Majority Leader Joel Villanueva is poised to take up chairmanship of the Senate Committee on Ethics and Privileges, which is tasked to look and hear any ethics complaint filed by a senator to a fellow colleague, a government official of a Filipino citizen.
Villanueva, in a press briefing, told reporters he is ready to step up and take the challenge should he be chosen to lead the ethics panel.
