Maricar Madrid makes a triumphant comeback

For over a decade, actress Maricar Madrid, whose real name is Maria Theresa Guinta, also known as Maricar Santos, stepped away from the public eye. But today, she returns with a powerful story of survival, healing, and a renewed sense of purpose.
Maricar was first introduced to audiences as an actress and producer in the film Pasang Krus, followed by indie titles like Baklas and Watawat. She also appeared in various shows on GMA Network. Eventually, she chose to leave the limelight to focus on her family, health, and inner growth.
“I may have stepped away from acting, but I never gave up my love for storytelling,” she shares during an online interview recently. 
On July 25, Maricar survived a life-threatening T-bone car collision. She sustained fractures in both her lumbar and thoracic spine—yet miraculously, no surgery was needed.
“The impact was massive. My car was completely totaled. But I’m alive,” she recalls, voice trembling. "I felt wrapped in divine protection. It was truly a miracle.”
While still healing, Maricar has already returned to filmmaking—partnering again with Direk Buboy Tan for a new independent film inspired by real stories of women who overcame great adversity.
Among her upcoming film projects: Mrs. Harris – a rags-to-riches story of a Filipina in America; BALO – co-starring Ian Veneracion; and Ina ng Awa – a powerful ensemble production.
“This is no longer about fame,” she says. “I want to tell stories that matter—stories of faith, resilience, and second chances.”

Plans are underway for a California premiere and charity block screenings to raise funds for underprivileged individuals in the film industry, support outreach programs in the Philippines, and create job opportunities for indie film workers.
Talks are ongoing to bring these films to select Philippine cinemas and potentially to international streaming platforms like Netflix.
In addition to her skincare business and film work, Maricar is actively involved in cultural events that highlight Filipino creativity and heritage. She is currently helping organize a special fashion event led by the legendary Stella Suarez, a timeless beauty queen and mother of actor Richard Gomez.
“Working with Tita Stella is such a blessing. Even though we’re based in America, we carry the love for our culture, the arts, and the Bayanihan spirit wherever we go.”
As a proud member of Lions Club San Diego and active volunteer at OCBC (Olongapo City Bayanihan Club of San Diego), Maricar remains committed to community outreach—both in the U.S. and in the Philippines.

Now based in California, Maricar thrives as an entrepreneur and award-winning skincare expert. Her business, Beauty Glimpse by Maria, recently received the Best Day Spa in North County, California 2025 award.
Maricar is set to receive an award at the PMPC's Star Awards 2025 as Empowered Artist and Entrepreneur, Excellence in Skincare Innovation at the VS Hotel Convention Center in Quezon City on Aug. 24.
“I’m deeply honored and grateful to receive this award at the Star Awards 2025. This recognition is not only a blessing but also a powerful reminder that every sacrifice, sleepless night, and hard-fought moment was worth it," said Maricar during a recent interview. “Adding to the joy, on July 18, my business was named Best Day Spa in North County California 2025. What a meaningful milestone!"
“To everyone who stood by me—thank you. This award is for all of us. I look forward to continuing this journey and launching more impactful projects in both showbiz and skincare.
“Although I’m currently in the U.S., my son, Chemuel Santos, will receive the award on my behalf. I’m incredibly proud of him—an inspiring grooming entrepreneur and the founder of BG Men’s Masteries Barbershop Skincare," she added.
