ILOILO CITY – An elderly woman was killed in a fire on Saturday morning in this city two weeks after burying her husband.

Authorities identified the victim as 75-year-old Teresita Senon Panelo, who was trapped on the second floor of her house in Barangay Oñate in Mandurriao District.
The Bureau of Fire Protection-Iloilo City Fire Station (BFP-ICFS) said the fire started at 8:57 a.m.
Eight fire trucks responded and were able to put the blaze under control by 9:28 a.m.
The BFP-ICFS said the fire might have emanated from a candle.
Teresita’s three relatives were injured when the fire reached their adjacent house – a 65-year-old woman, 49-year-old man, and a 12-year-old boy.
They were taken to the Western Visayas Medical Center (WVMC).
