Akbayan Party-list Rep. Perci Cendaña mocked the senators on Saturday, Aug. 2 for allegedly "rushing" to dismiss Vice President Sara Duterte's impeachment complaint.
This, after the Cendaña heard speculation that 19 to 20 senators out of the 24-member Senate were going to vote for such dismissal?
"Puno na ba ang jeep at nagmamadali sila? (Are they rushing because the jeep is already full?)" the outspoken congressman said in a short statement, referring to the members of the upper chamber.
Last week, the Supreme Court (SC) declared the House-prepared impeachment complaint against the Vice President unconstitutional for violating the one-year bar provision of the 1987 Constitution on such complaints.
Senate President Francis "Chiz" Escudero said the Senate impeachment court will put the SC ruling to vote on Wednesday, Aug. 6.
There has been an attempt in the Senate in the past to have the impeachment rap dismissed outright without the conduct of a constitutionally-mandanted trial against Duterte.
The Vice President's subsequently sought the junking of the impeachment complaint before the SC.
Cendaña reportedly led the filing of a motion for reconsideration on the SC decision Friday, Aug. 1.
"May inihain pang MR ang mga citizen petitioners sa SC to reverse their decision. Dapat aksyunan muna ‘yun ng korte (There's an MR filed by citizen petitioners for the SC to reverse their decision. The court must act on this first).
"Dapat hindi maiwanan ang pananagutan at katarungan (Accountability and justice must not be left behind)," Cendaña said.
