DAVAO CITY – The National University Lady Bulldogs held a fan meet at the Expansion Wing Atrium of SM City Davao on Saturday, Aug. 2, ahead of their participation in the Shakey’s Super League (SSL) National Invitationals Davao Leg.
NU assistant coach Alvin Dumalaog thanked the people of Davao City for the warm welcome, as well as to the Shakey’s and Athletic Events and Sports Management Inc. for the invitation.
He said it was a big opportunity for the Lady Bulldogs to reach out to fans outside Metro Manila.
Team captain Vangie Alinsug, meanwhile, echoed the sentiment and expressed her appreciation on behalf of the squad.
“I’m delighted because NU has expanded its name outside the capital. Many people are now supporting us—not just NU Manila,” said Alinsug.
“Thank you for all your support. It motivates us to do our best in the game. Sana hindi po kayo magsawa na suportahan kami manalo man o matalo,” she added.
NU boasts of multiple collegiate championships -- including three in the UAAP and three straight in the SSL preseason events.
The squad is composed of Alinsug, Samantha Chloey Cantada, Denesse Daylisan, Myrtle Escanlar, and Celine Elizabeth Marsh, with additional offensive strength from Nathasza Kaye Bombita, Aishat Bello and Harlyn Serneche.

NU and University of the Philippines led the opening day of the SSL National Invitationals Davao City Leg on Friday, Aug. 1, at the University of Southeastern Philippines Gym. They wrap up the three-day event with a faceoff match on Sunday, Aug. 3.
Meanwhile, UP dismantled Davao Selection, 25-11, 25-13, 25-15, during the SSL National Invitationals kick-off game on Friday night, Aug. 1, at the University of Southeastern Philippines Gym on Obrero here.

Kiane Olango and Nina Ytang provided support with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
The Davao City leg serves as one of the highlights of the 2025 Kadayawan Sports Festival.
The game, spearheaded by ACES, is supported by the Davao City Sports Development Office, Mindanao Development Authority, Apo View Hotel, Commission on Higher Education Region 11, and the University of Southeastern Philippines.
