The ultimate status symbol SUV has just leveled up a notch with the arrival of the Mercedes-Benz G580 with EQ Technology. The name may be a mouthful but it essentially means it’s an all-electric G-Class.
The electric G580 looks just like the other ICE G-Class models with just some very subtle changes. These include closed-off grille (because it no longer needs a large radiator to cool an engine), a slightly raised hood, air curtains in the rear wheel arches, and unique alloy wheels. Behind is also a squared off spare tire cover which actually houses the charging cable.
Inside, the electric G580 boasts of a luxurious cabin with Nappa leather upholstery. It boasts of LED ambient lighting, and high-definition dual digital displays on the dashboard that are powered by the brand's MBUX infotainment system. Passengers behind get individual screens mounted on the backs of the front seats.
Powering the electric G 580 is four electric motors (one for each wheel) that draw power from a high-capacity 116 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The electric motors produce a combined 587-PS and an impressive 1,164-Nm of torque. This massive battery pack allows the vehicle to travel as far as 475-km from a full charge (based on the WLTP cycle).
Its performance can easily eclipse that of the ICE versions. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 180 km/h (electronically limited).
With a motor at each wheel, the G580 boasts of unparalleled off-road ability. Its motors can synchronize to work like virtual differential locks or even turn in complete opposite directions to do the G-Turn, where the vehicle can spin 360-degrees while staying in place. It also gets features like torque vectoring, three-speed intelligent off-road crawl functions, G-Roar, and G-Steering.
The vehicle is now available for purchase at P13.59 million.
