Five pet dogs perished in a fire that broke out in a residential building along J. Del Rosario Street in Barangay Tumana, Marikina City, on Friday afternoon, August 1.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said the fire started in the kitchen area on the second floor of the two-story house owned by William Jacinto.
The fire was raised to the first alarm at 5:50 p.m. and was declared out at 6:33 p.m.
Barangay Tumana Kagawad Marlou Parro said that 21 dogs were allegedly trapped, and five of them died despite efforts by firefighters and rescuers to save them.
Parro added that the rescued dogs are currently being taken care of at the Del Rosario Multipurpose Hall.
He said they are looking for volunteer veterinarians to assess their condition, as some are reportedly still weak. Dog food has also been provided for their care.
According to BFP-Marikina, the fire affected four families or a total of 10 individuals, who were immediately assisted.
While five dogs did not survive, authorities confirmed that no other casualties or injuries were reported.
The estimated damage caused by the fire is around P75,000.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire.
