P12.5-M smuggled cigarettes, guns seized in Sulu checkpoint

ZAMBOANGA CITY – Smuggled cigarettes valued at P12.5 million and a gun and ammunition were seized in a checkpoint in Sulu province on Wednesday, July 30.
The Luuk Municipal Police Station was conducting checkpoint operations when they flagged down three vehicles suspected of transporting illegal goods.
Authorities discovered cartons of undocumented cigarettes inside these vehicles and a .45 pistol from one of the passengers. Also found were three magazines with 21 bullets.
Three passengers were immediately held and the seized items were brought to the Luuk Municipal Police Station.
Police are continuing their investigation and coordinating with the Bureau of Customs for disposition of the contraband.
