The suspects, identified as “Bonbon” and “Ango,” declared a holdup and pointed a kitchen knife at the victim. Bonbon forcefully grabbed her cellphone, wounding her hand.
At this juncture, an off-duty police officer from ANCAR Marikina City Police Station, who was passing by, saw the incident.
He immediately approached the victim who told him she had been robbed. He then asked her to stay in the area and chased the suspects onboard his motorcycle.
Authorities said the chase ended when the fleeing suspects accidentally crashed into a parked vehicle. He ordered them to lie on the ground.
Two patrolling police officers in the area saw the commotion and immediately assisted him in arresting the suspects.
The victim’s mobile phone worth P25,599 was recovered from the suspects, along with the kitchen knife and white Honda motorcycle.
The suspects were temporarily detained at the Marikina City Police Station Custodial Facility.
EPD District Director Brig. Gen. Aden T. Lagradante praised the policemen for their dedication to public safety, especially the officers who helped stop the crime even while off duty.
“I commend the bravery, precision, and swift action of our Marikina cops. Their dedication led to the quick response to perilous scenarios and the elimination of unruly individuals from our streets. This is another strong message that we will not allow our communities to be threatened by criminal activity,” he said.
