APEC Party-list Rep. Sergio Dagooc and PhilRECA Party-list Rep. Presley de Jesus promises to bring more "power" to the House minority bloc's tasks as fiscalizers in the 20th Congress.
This, after the two self-styled "power bloc" members were designated as deputy minority leaders by Minority Leader 4Ps Party-list Rep. Marcelino "Nonoy" Libanan.
APEC stands for Association of Philippine Electric Cooperatives, while PhilRECA means Philippine Rural Electric Cooperatives Association.
“We thank Minority Leader Libanan and the minority bloc for the trust they have given us. We stand ready to support a principled and constructive minority that will champion accountability and the welfare of every Filipino,” said De Jesus.
“We look forward to working closely with the Minority Leader in ensuring that the voice of the marginalized and underrepresented is heard and heeded, particularly those who remain without access to basic services,” Dagooc said for his part.
Both are expected to play key roles in the internal coordination of the minority bloc and in its representation during plenary and committee deliberations.
As fiscalizers, they are tasked with examining proposed legislations and the national budget with greater scrutiny, ensuring that programs and appropriations serve the public interest.
Being deputy minority leaders, Dagooc and De Jesus are also empowered to participate and vote in all House committees, and thus ensure that the minority's perspectives are well-represented in the legislative process.
"The power bloc will continue to pursue legislation that directly responds to the real and urgent needs of the Filipino people," they said.
