Mitz Jalandoni delivered the lone gold for the Philippines in the 9th Asian Pencak Silat Championships after topping the Female Bebas (Solo Creative) category in Ha Tinh, Vietnam recently.
Jalandoni outshone India’s Disha Reddy and Vietnam’s Nguyen Thi Yen Linh to win the only gold for the national team and got paired with Shara Jizmundo in the Ganda double division to pluck silver.
Jizmundo snared her second medal with a silver in the Tunggal (Solo) class which made the two Filipinas the top performers for the Philippine squad.
Other silver winners for the Philippines were Kram Airam Carpio, (Female Tanding Class A), Dines Dumaan (Male Tanding Class B), and Maricel Dela Torre (Female Tanding Class D).
Harold Ralph Ungaya, Cyrell Covon, Allimar Campos, Alvin Campos, Stephen Suazo, Angeline Virina, Hanna Mae Ibutnande, Jessa Dela Cruz, Ziara Oquindo, Fatima A-isha Hamsain, Mary Justine Acat, and Alfau Jan Abad bagged bronzes in their respective categories.
In total, the Philippines took home one gold, five silvers, and 12 bronzes in the competition which was joined by 10 countries across the continent.
Host Vietnam hoisted the overall champion trophy after posting 17 golds, 4 silvers, and 7 bronzes, Malaysia (7-3-4), and Indonesia (4-3-2) finished as second and third, respectively.
