An Israeli man was arrested at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on Thursday, July 31, after authorities discovered disassembled firearm parts and live ammunition inside his checked-in luggage.
The suspect was identified as a 50-year-old Israeli who is a defense consultant and military reservist from Jerusalem. He was a departing passenger bound for Dubai with a connecting flight to Tel Aviv.
According to airport authorities, the Israeli national was arrested by elements of the Philippine National Police – Aviation Security Group (PNP-AVSEGROUP) when alert X-ray operators detected an image resembling a firearm in his luggage during routine screening at the Baggage Build-Up Area, South Ramp of NAIA Terminal 3.
The incident was immediately reported to a baggage inspector and on-duty PNP AVSEGROUP personnel, who conducted a manual inspection of the luggage as witnessed by the suspect.
Airport authorities said the police recovered several disassembled firearm parts including components of a 5.56mm rifle, a .22 caliber revolver frame and cylinder, a .45 magazine, and boxes of live ammunition from the baggage.
When asked to present legal documents authorizing possession and transport of the items, the Israeli national “failed to produce any,” the police and airport authorities said.
The suspect and the confiscated items were brought to NAIA Police Station 3 for further investigation and the filing of appropriate charges.
