The Filipina hitters were playing an inspired game in the first two sets -- a dominant first and an extension scare in the second -- but was countered by the Thais who bared their fangs in the next two to strengthen their title defense bid with a hard-earned win.
The Philippines tries to bounce back this Saturday, Aug. 2, at the same venue when it challenges No. 27 Vietnam, which is fresh off a dominant 25-11, 25-11, 25-22 win over No. 50 Indonesia.
Thailand, on the other hand, shoots for its back-to-back victory when it takes on the Indonesians.
Despite their defeat, the Filipinas made a historic feat as they scored their first-ever set win against the Thai bets since the competition was relaunched as SEA V.League in 2023.
Alyssa Solomon made an immediate impact in her Alas return, scoring a game-high 20 points,
Aside from Solomon's scoring spree, Angel Canino and Eya Laure dazzled as well on the offensive end after listing 16 and 12 points, respectively.
Pimpichaya Kokram, on the other hand, paced the formidable Thais with 18 points, while veteran Ajcharaporn Kongyot and rising star Seetaloed Warisara backed her up with 13 and 12.
