2 minor siblings injured in Valenzuela residential fire

Two siblings were injured after a fire broke out along a residential along F. Bautista Street in Barangay Marulas on Thursday, July 31.

According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)–Valenzuela, the victims were a 13-year-old boy and a 10-year-old girl. One of them reportedly sustained second-degree burns, while the other suffered minor injuries.
The fire started at 11 p.m. and was raised to the second alarm at 11:22 p.m.
The blaze was extinguished at 12:18 a.m. on Friday, August 1.
The BFP reported that eight houses were completely destroyed, displacing eight families or around 40 individuals. The fire damaged an estimated P1 million worth of property.
Authorities said the fire may have started from a candle left unattended and possibly played with by children. However, investigation is ongoing to determine the real cause of the blaze.
The affected families have been temporarily housed in Barangay Marulas Hall, where they received immediate assistance from the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO).
The incident added to the hardship of the affected residents, many of whom are still recovering from recent flooding in the area, BFP said.
