Motorcycle rider hurt after being hit by delivery truck in QC
A motorcycle rider was injured after being hit from behind by a delivery truck on Thursday morning, July 31 in Quezon City.
According to the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Traffic Sector 1, the incident occurred at around 5:37 a.m. along G. Araneta Avenue corner Mauban Street.
Based on the police report, the motorcycle rider, who had just dropped off his wife at work, was reportedly slowing down to yield to other motorists at the intersection.
Suddenly, a delivery truck carrying around 400 hollow blocks rear-ended the motorcycle, causing the rider to be thrown off.
“‘Yung motor nag-menor para magbigay daan, pero ‘yung truck sa likod hindi agad nakapagpreno. Parang hindi siya nag-maintain ng tamang distansya. Tinamaan ng bumper, kaya tumilapon (The motorcycle rider slowed down to give way, but the truck behind it didn't brake immediately. It seemed like it didn't maintain the right distance. The truck's bumper hit the motorcycle causing it to flip over),” the police said.
The rider complained of back pain and was quickly rushed to a nearby hospital.
According to the truck driver, he was caught off guard by the rider’s sudden stop.
“Nagulat lang talaga ako. Mabagal lang takbo ko pero bigla siyang huminto. Hindi ko na naiwasan. Humihingi ako ng paumanhin, hindi ko naman sinasadya (I was just really caught off guard. I was driving slowly, but he suddenly stopped. I couldn't avoid him. I am sorry, I didn't mean to hit him),” the truck driver said.
The truck driver will face charges for Reckless Imprudence Resulting in Damage to Property with Physical Injury.
