Marcos talks to German Chancellor Merz over phone call—Palace
President Marcos had a phone call with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz to discuss key areas of cooperation including defense and economic ties.

Marcos said on Thursday evening, July 31, that he had a "good conversation" with Merz about ways to bolster the two countries' relationship.
The President also disclosed that they talked about working on regional issues.
"Just had a good conversation with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz," he said.
"We talked about strengthening our defense and economic cooperation, working together on regional issues, and creating more opportunities for our people," he added.
Marcos also revealed that he was invited by the foreign official to visit Germany soon.
"I also thanked him for the kind invitation to visit Germany again soon," he said.
The diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Germany began in 1954. Germany opened its official mission in Manila in 1973, and the Philippines opened the Embassy in Bonn in 1955, which moved to Berlin in 1999.
