Makati City eyes partnership with DOTr to enhance mass transit
Makati City Mayor Nancy Binay and DOTr Sec. Vince Dizon
The Makati City government on Wednesday, July 30, announced its intention to partner with the Department of Transportation (DOTr) to further improve its mass transportation systems. The initiative is part of the city's ongoing efforts to address the traffic and transportation woes faced by millions of commuters.
The proposed partnership was announced by Makati Mayor Nancy Binay during the courtesy visit of DOTr Sec. Vince Dizon to her office, where they discussed collaborative opportunities to address the city's transportation challenges.
"Makati is exploring how to support the DOTr's initiatives, including the Metro Manila Subway project construction, improvements to the Pasig River ferry system, and rehabilitation of Makati's Philippine National Railway stations," Binay said.
The proposed partnership aims to improve traffic flow to and from Makati while making transportation more convenient for the public.
With the city's daytime population swelling to 3.2 to 4.2 million people due to its central business district, the city government saw that efficient transportation has become critical.
The meeting included key officials from both agencies including City Public Safety Officer P/BGen. Rodelio Jocson, DOTr Under Secretary for Railways Timothy John Batan, City General Services Department OIC Carleen Yap-Villa, and City Engineer William Hong.
"Makati is serious in its commitment to provide the best transport systems to the people. We look forward to working with the DOTr in this endeavor," the mayor noted.
