Israel assures aid for family of slain OFW from Negros Occidental

BACOLOD CITY – Israeli Consul Moti Cohen arrived in Negros Occidental on Wednesday, July 30, to visit the wake of Leah Mosquera, an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) killed in a missile attack in Israel recently.
Department of Migrant Workers-Negros Island Region (DMW-NIR) Director Glenda Aligonza, Overseas Welfare Workers Administration (OWWA)-6 (Western Visayas) Director James Mendiola, and Provincial Public Employment Service Office Head Karen Dinsay welcomed Cohen as he paid a courtesy visit to Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson at the Provincial Capitol here head of his trip to San Enrique town to meet Mosquera’s family.
Cohen said they came to pay their last respects to Mosquera and condole with her family, just like what they did two years ago to 49-year-old OFW Loreta Alacre from Cadiz City, Negros Occidental who also died in the conflict.
He assured the Mosquera family of financial and humanitarian assistance.
“An assistance for an Israeli hurt in an attack or terror, goes the same to a foreign national,” Cohen said.
He said that part of their visit was to inform Mosquera’s family of the benefits they will receive from the Israeli government and help them facilitate assistance that will be provided.
He said that 30,000 Filipinos are working in Israel and they all have the same security measures with citizens.
Lacson turned over financial aid of P190,000 to Mosquera’s brother, Roel, as part of the provincial government’s commitment to assist OFWs from the province affected by tragedies abroad.
Mosquera, a 49-year-old Filipina caregiver, was killed on June 15 in Rehovot where she was working for nearly 20 years.
She served as a barangay treasurer in Barangay Guintorilan, San Enrique before working abroad alongside her sister. Her remains arrived in her hometown last week.
