The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) on Thursday, July 31 warned the public about text messages that falsely claim emergency cash assistance is being provided to flood-affected residents in Metro Manila.
The agency explained that the messages are part of a scam that deceives recipients into clicking on suspicious links, often disguised as coming from the agency or affiliated platforms.
According to DSWD, the Emergency Cash Transfer program is granted only to families whose homes have been assessed as partially or totally damaged by calamities.
Distribution of the aid is coordinated with local government units and conducted through verified procedures, and not through unsolicited text messages or online links.
To avoid falling victim to the scam, the public is encouraged to verify any announcements through DSWD’s official social media pages or website.
