The leaders of the House quad-committee (quad-comm) version 2.0 are almost complete, as three of its four available chairmanships have already been filled up.
Already designated with chairmen are the committees on Dangerous Drugs, on Public Order and Safety, and on Human Rights.
Majority Leader Ilocos Norte 1st district Rep. Sandro Marcos elected chairmen to these panels during plenary session on Tuesday night, July 29 amid the House of Representatives' reorganization efforts in the current 20th Congress.
Bukidnon 2nd district Rep. Jonathan Keith Flores was elected chairman of the Committee on Dangerous Drugs, while Manila 2nd district Rep. Rolando Valeriano will now lead the Committee on Public Order and Safety.
Manila 6th district Rep. Bienvenido “Benny” Abante Jr. was retained as chairman of the Committee on Human Rights, the panel he held in the previous 19th Congress. The House has yet to elect a new chairman for the Committee on Public Accounts, the panel that rounds up the vaunted quad-comm.
Deputy Speaker Iloilo 1st district Rep. Janette Garin, the presiding officer at that time, affirmed the elections of Flores, Valeriano, and Abante.
Abante had earlier said that he was willing to become the overall chairman of the quad-comm.
Initially formed in August 2024, the quad-comm held a total of 15 marathon hearings on the alleged interconnected issues of (POGOs). extrajudicial killings (EJKs), money-laundering, illegal drugs, and former president Rodrigo Duterte's bloody war on drugs.
The highest profile witness or resource person who attended the series of hearings held by the special four-way joint panel was ex-president Duterte himself.
The quad-comm hearings had a lot of earth-shaking revelations and viral moments, and at its height was akin to a highly-rated television drama.
