P25-M ketamine intercepted at Clark Airport

CLARK FREEPORT ZONE, Pampanga – Authorities thwarted an international drug smuggling attempt Wednesday after intercepting a high-value parcel containing more than five kilograms of ketamine — an illegal party drug — valued at over P25.3 million here.
In a statement, Police Regional Office-Central Luzon (PRO-3) chief Police Brig. Gen. Ponce Rogelio Peñones Jr. said the 11:12 a.m. operation targeted a parcel declared as a “data cable roll,” which originated from Lier, Belgium, and was consigned to a resident of Rodriguez, Rizal.
Upon thorough inspection, authorities discovered six transparent plastic pouches containing a white crystalline substance, which was later confirmed to be ketamine — a controlled substance known for its hallucinogenic and dissociative effects.
Peñones said no suspects were apprehended during the seizure. However, authorities have filed a case for violation of Section 4, Article II (importation of illegal drugs) of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Representative samples have been forwarded to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Regional Laboratory for confirmatory analysis.
“This successful interdiction highlights the impact of strong inter-agency collaboration,” Peñones said.
“By working together — PDEA, BOC (Bureau of Customs), NBI (National Bureau of Investigation), and the PNP (Philippine National Police) — we are sending a clear message that Central Luzon remains vigilant in securing our ports of entry against illegal drugs. We remain fully committed to our strategic direction to protect the people, pursue peace and order, and promote professionalism," he added.
The seized ketamine, a substance frequently misused in party and club scenes, poses serious health and societal risks.
An investigation is underway to trace the origins and intended recipients of the illegal shipment, the PRO-3 chief said. (with PNA)
