Manuel V. Pangilinan-led Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) has partnered with a Vietnamese electric vehicle (EV) charging firm and its growing ride-hailing service provider to bolster clean mobility infrastructure systems in the Philippines.
In a statement on Wednesday, July 30, Meralco said it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Vietnam’s V-Green Global Charging Station Development Corp. (V-Green) and Green and Smart Mobility Joint Stock Company (Green GSM) to look into potential sites for charging stations and electric taxi hubs, among others.
The partnership, which would include technical cooperation and knowledge sharing, will also help support the deployment of charging networks, as well as support the EV adoption fleet.
Meralco chairman and chief executive officer (CEO) Manuel Pangilinan affirmed that this recent signing is a testament of the company’s commitment to help develop the country’s renewable ecosystem, particularly in transportation.
“We are committed to helping build this ecosystem – one that is future-ready, inclusive and grounded in service. We want Filipinos to experience the future of transport, not just in Metro Manila, but across the archipelago,” he said.
The company affirmed its contribution in advancing the goals under the Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act (EVIDA) through the roll-out of the integrated EV and charging stations for both businesses and public utilization.
Nguyen Thanh Duong, CEO of V-Green, said that the collaboration would help boost the renewable mobility fleet in Southeast Asia.
“By combining our expertise in EV charging infrastructure with Meralco’s strong local presence, we aim to rapidly deploy a reliable and accessible charging network across the Philippines. Together with VinFast and Green GSM, we are proud to contribute to a comprehensive EV ecosystem that supports the country’s journey towards a cleaner and more sustainable future,” he said.
Dao Quy Phi, CEO of Green GSM Philippines also said that the Philippines’ EV market is growing, as he stated a strong momentum for clean mobility solutions.
“Through this collaboration with Meralco and V-Green, Green GSM is excited to expand our 100% electric ride-hailing service to more cities nationwide. Our goal is not only to provide safe, convenient, and affordable transportation, but also to play an active role in building a greener future for Filipino communities,” he said.
While VinFast, V-Green, and Green GSM are already rising in the Philippines through their EV distribution, charging, and electric taxi operations, the partnership will help provide affordable mobility and an efficient travel experience.
