The House of Representatives continues to fill up key chairmanships in its ongoing reorganization in the 20th Congress.
Majority Leader Ilocos Norte 1st district Rep. Sandro Marcos, named during plenary session on Thursday, July 29 the chairpersons of the Committees on Ways and Means, on Accounts, on Good Government and Public Accountability, and on Public Information.
Marikina 2nd district Rep. Miro Quimbo, a returning congressman, has been elected as chairperson of the Committee on Ways and Means. All measures that have to do with taxation go through this panel.
Davao de Oro 1st district Rep. Maria Carmen Zamora was designated as chairperson of the Committee on Accounts. This panel takes care of the House's finances.
The Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability--the so-called Blue Ribbon Committee of the House--will continue to be helmed by Manila 3rd district Rep. Joel Chua.
It can be recalled that the findings of the good government panel in the previous 19th Congress was used to build an impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte.
Meanwhile, Cagayan de Oro 1st district Rep. Lordan Suan was added to the list of "Young Guns" bloc members who were given more important tasks in the 20th Congress. He will be overseeing the Committee on Public Information.
Deputy Speaker Iloilo 1st district Rep. Janette Garin, the presiding officer at that, affirmed the designations of Quimbo, Zamora, Chua, and Suan.
