The chairmanship of the House Committee on Justice--the panel that determines whether or not an impeachment complaint could prosper--has been given to one of the solon-prosecutors in Vice President Sara Duterte's impeachment case.
Named as the justice panel chairperson during plenary session Wednesday, July 30 was Batangas 2nd district Rep. Gerville "Jinky Bitrics" Luistro.
Majority leader Ilocos Norte 1st district Rep. Sandro Marcos elected Luistro to her new position in the 20th Congress. It was quickly affirmed in plenary.
"LARGA HREP! Embarking on the legislative journey of the 20th Congress of the Philippines as the newly elected Chairwoman of the Justice Committee of the House of Representatives!" an ecstatic Luistro wrote on her Facebook on Wednesday night.
Luistro, who won her second term in office during the mid-term polls last May, was arguably the breakout star of the House "Young Guns" bloc in the previous 19th Congress.
She turned heads during the House quad-committee (quad-comm) hearings when she held her own--and even one-upped--the likes of former presidential spokesperson Harry Roque and former president Rodrigo Duterte.
Perhaps the biggest feather on her cap came last February when she was designated by the House leadership as one of the 11 solon-prosecutors in Vice President Duterte's impeachment case.
There are seven articles of impeachment against Duterte, including the alleged misuse of the P612.5 million funds. As far as l Luistro is concerned, there has been no clear explanation as to how these public funds were spent.
Once an impeachment complaint is referred to the justice panel, it will hold hearings to determine whether or not it is sufficient in form and in substance.
