'Hindi ako yan': Sarangani congressman says viral 'sabong' watcher isn't him

For the record, the viral "sabong" watcher within the House plenary whom news cameras caught red-handed was not Sarangani lone district Rep. Steve Chiongbian Solon.
Unfortunately, a lot of people think it is him after seeing a particular "pubmat" or publication material on social media.
That's why on late Tuesday night, July 29, the veteran congressman took to Facebook to make an important clarification.
"It has come to my attention that people are tagging my name to a viral post. So let me clarify this once and for all -- I [neither] gamble nor do I approve of online gambling," he wrote.
The confusion stems from his having the surname "Solon", which is a synonym for lawmaker or legislator.
"Pag may nagheadline ng ganito "Solon, naispatang nanood ng online sabong..." ang ibig sabihin ng SOLON ay LAWMAKER in English (If somebody writes this headline 'Solon seen watching online cockfighting...' SOLON means LAWMAKER in English)," the Sarangani congressman wrote.
"Hindi lahat ng nakasulat na Solon ay ako (Not all words that read 'Solon' refers to me)," he said, pointing out the key distinction.
"Let's be functional readers not instant reactors," Rep. Solon further wrote, as if to chide those who accused him of being the sabong watcher on the sole basis of the headline. He didn't find fault with the pubmat.
During Monday's plenary session, a male House member was allegedly seen watching online sabong or cockfighting on his phone. It was during this particular plenary session that solons voted for the House Speaker of the 20th Congress.
Monday, July 28 was also the day of President Marcos' fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA), so there were more media practioners in and out of plenary on that day.
It remains to be seen if that particular House member would voluntarily come out and spare his colleagues of any speculation.
There are 317 listed House lawmakers in the 20th Congress.
