ZAMBOANGA CITY -- Mayor Khymer Olaso here banned on Monday, July 28, full face helmets following a grenade throwing incident at the house of a supporter and president of a contractor's association here.
Olaso asked police to launch a full investigation and immediately identify and arrest the perpetrators.
He condemned the incident and described it as a barbaric act that has no place in Zamboanga City.
The mayor advocated the adoption of “J-type” helmets which comply with national safety regulations and allow easier identification of motorcycle riders, particularly in cases of riding-in-tandem crimes.
Olaso asked people
to remain vigilant and report any information to the police that would lead to the resolution of the crime.The grenade throwing incident happened at the house of Melvin Tan Quintos, president of the Las Contratistas dela Ciudad de Zamboanga, at 3:22 a.m. Monday in Lantawan, Barangay Pasonanca.
Nobody was hurt but damage was reported inside the residential premises.
Two persons on board a motorcycle were caught on CCTV fleeing from the area seconds after the incident.
