Yuchengco's PetroGreen to activate San Jose Solar plant in August
Yuchengco-led PetroGreen Energy Corp. (PGEC) is set to commence commercial operations at its San Jose Solar Power Plant (SJSPP) in Nueva Ecija on Aug. 1, following approvals from the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) and the Independent Electricity Market Operator of the Philippines (IEMOP).
PGEC announced in a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange on Tuesday, July 29, that the 19.6-megawatt direct current (MWdc) SJSPP received the ERC’s Provisional Authority to Operate (PAO) and IEMOP's approval for its participation in the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM) as a commercial generator.
Both approvals were granted this month.
The SJSPP is one of four solar plants developed under the Rizal Green Energy Corp. (RGEC), a joint venture between PGEC and Japan's Taisei Corporation.
“The SJSPP marks our second utility-scale solar power facility to reach commercial operations this year, following the commercial launch of the 27.1 MWdc Dagohoy Solar Power Plant (DSPP) in Bohol on July 16, 2025,” Maria Victoria M. Olivar, PGEC Vice President for Commercial Operations and Business, said.
According to Olivar, this makes SJSPP PGEC’s third renewable energy project to begin commercial operations this year. Earlier, PGEC also commenced operations for a 3-megawatt-peak (MWp) solar rooftop installation at Isuzu Autoparts’ manufacturing plant in Laguna Technopark.
The Aug. 1 commercial operations date for SJSPP will also mark the beginning of its power supply agreement with S.N. Aboitiz Power (SNAP).
Last year, PGEC secured a 10-year clean power supply deal with SNAP for 15.6 MWac capacity from the plant.
