Senate bares initial list of committee chairmanships in 20th Congress

- The Senate has announced its new committee chairmanships, with key positions distributed among both veteran and first-time senators.
The Senate announced on Tuesday, July 29, its initial roster of committee chairmanships in the nascent 20th Congress.
The list shows a mix of seasoned and new lawmakers taking charge of some of the most significant committees in the upper chamber.

Senator Rodante Marcoleta, a first-time senator, now chairs the Blue Ribbon Committee, a critical panel known for probing government anomalies. Marcoleta also heads the Trade, Commerce, and Entrepreneurship Committee. Overall, his chairmanships indicate a strong presence in oversight and economic legislation.
Senator Alan Peter Cayetano leads multiple influential committees: Accounts, Higher Education, Technical and Vocational Education, Justice and Human Rights, and Science and Technology.
Senator Imee Marcos holds three key positions as chairperson of the Foreign Relations, Labor, and Cooperatives Committees, while Senator Robin Padilla continues his legislative leadership over the Constitutional Amendments, Cultural Communities and Muslim Affairs, and Public Information and Mass Media Committees. This aligns with Padilla's known advocacy for Charter change (Cha-cha) and federalism.
Senator Pia Cayetano will take on several significant posts, as she will head the Energy, Ways and Means, and Sustainable Development Goals Committees.
Returning Senator Bam Aquino chairs the Basic Education Committee, while Senator Francis "Kiko" Pangilinan will lead the Agriculture, Food, and Agrarian Reform Committee.
Senator Raffy Tulfo, a vocal advocate for labor rights and overseas workers, leads both the Migrant Workers and Public Services Committees. His brother, Senator Erwin Tulfo, will chair the Games and Amusements and Social Justice, Welfare and Rural Development Committees.
Senator Christopher "Bong" Go will continue to hold the Health and Demography, Sports, and Youth Committees, while Senator Joseph Victor "JV" Ejercito will helm of Tourism and Local Government.
Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa stays at the helm of the Public Order and Dangerous Drugs Committee, while Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Estrada takes over the National Defense and Security Committee.
Senator Camille Villar will lead the Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change Committee, a role that was previously held by her mother, former Senator Cynthia Villar. Her brother, Senator Mark Villar, will lead the Public Works Committee.
Senator Sherwin Gatchalian will be in control of the powerful Finance Committee, which is expected to play a major role in budget deliberations.
