DAVAO CITY – Davao City first district Rep. Paolo Duterte warned against individuals using his name to solicit money through text messages.
Duterte, in a statement posted in his official Facebook page, said that neither he nor his office has requested financial assistance from the public, nor have authorized any person to do so on their behalf.
“I would like to inform the public that neither my office nor I have ever solicited financial assistance from anyone, nor have we authorized any such request on behalf of other individuals,” Duterte said.
Duterte said his office has initiated legal actions to hold those responsible accountable and to stop this deceptive scheme.
He urged people to exercise caution when receiving unsolicited messages, especially those involving financial requests, and called on recipients to verify suspicious communication before taking action.
“We urge the public to remain vigilant and cautious. Please verify any suspicious messages or claims before taking action,” Duterte said.
Duterte encouraged people who have received such messages to report them to authorities or the Office of the First Congressional District of Davao City.
Authorities are investigating to determine the people behind these.
Duterte thanked the public for their continued trust and support.
