Filipino math aces continued to shine in the global mathematics scene after winning 25 medals and four other awards in two competitions held in Hong Kong and Malaysia.
According to the Mathematics Trainers' Guild Phils. (MTG), which trained the delegation, the Philippine team bagged three gold, four silver, and 11 bronze medals at the 2nd Mathematics Master Cup (MMC) global finals held on July 21 at the University of Hong Kong,
The contingent also placed third overall after powerhouse China and host Hong Kong in the 14-nation event.
Aside from the Hong Kong and the Philippines, teams from Australia, Canada, China, Bulgaria, Indonesia, Laos, Macau, Malaysia, South Africa, South Korea, Taiwan, and Thailand also took part in the MMC.
The contest was organized by the World Stem Association, HK Math Olympiad Association and Asia International Olympiad Union.
Dr. Simon Chua, MTG head, said the team's gold medalists are Alistair Ivan Siahingco and Ethan Liam Yu Go (St. Jude Catholic School), and Wilzent Brian Bonamy Lim (Pangasinan Universal Institute).
Winning the silver medals are Elizur Daniel Anabieza (Divine Light Academy), Erin Leighton Go (St. Jude Catholic School), Leonard Vash Cay (Xavier School Nuvali) and Ezekiel Anton Tan (Pangasinan Universal Institute).
