Larga Pilipinas was tentatively rescheduled to November after recent typhoons and the effects southwest monsoon caused heavy damage in the mountain routes of the six-stage race.

After a seven-year wait, fans and competitors might have to wait a little longer as the "Race to the Northern Alps" needed to be reset as routes across Luzon were largely affected by landslides while potholes and cracks were seen on paved roads.

“Unfortunately, heavily battered ang Northern Luzon, especially ‘yong Cordillera, in fact, some of the areas, terminals ng ating karera, as we speak, are isolated,” said operations director Snow Badua in Tuesday’s PSA Forum which presented by San Miguel Corporation, Philippine Sports Commission, Philippine Olympic Committee, MILO, Smart/PLDT, and the country’s 24/7 sports app Arena Plus.

“In close coordination with LGUs… it looks like we need to reset our races… kailangan naming palipasin ‘yong typhoon season, tyaka ire-reschedule ng latter part ng November,” he added.

The initial kickoff of Larga was actually set this Saturday, Aug. 2 and will be concluded on Aug. 7.

Badua also said that they already notified all teams and participants, including the foreign ones as they put much premium on the safety of the riders.

“So it’s a good thing na we’re discussing it right now, at least we’re able to get mga expert sa advice regarding do’n sa pagre-schedule natin,” Badua continued.

“Tentatively, like I said, 20 minutes ago lang talaga naming finally napagdesisyunan at nai-send ‘yong mga communiqué sa mga teams… But definitely, we want to do it this year,” he added.

With a new date in sight, Larga Pilipinas might reopen its registration despite more than 10,000 cyclists already taking part in the competition.

“At this point humihingi po kami ng paumanhin sa mga na-disappoint, pero mas uunahin po namin ang safety ninyo, ayaw naming mag-gamble, buhay po nating lahat ang nakasalalay dyan,” Badua stressed.

The cycling meet’s comeback will feature six stages from Cabanatuan, Mangaldan, Bayombong, Banaue, and up to Sagada and Baguio City.
